Exploring London: week 1/18

As promised, here is a little look into my first week in London!

Orientation week involved many free events and activities, one of which was a wonderful tour. I'm currently editing that vlog, which I will hopefully get up sometime this week!
St. Paul's Cathedral; a tour stop
On Sunday, my roommate and I went to Camden Market. Upon waking up early for the trip I was none too enthused (particularly due to the heavy rain and abundance of such markets in New York), but it turned out to be absolutely lovely!
Eating crepes by the water
Some very cool Vespa seats
Most of the vendors are within or above this former horse market...
... complete with fantastic horse-related statues everywhere!
My neighborhood of Bloomsbury is the academic heart of Central London, and includes many fine universities and museums. The free British Museum is on route to my classes, so I stopped in before and after Human Development yesterday.
And finally, Russell Square, just near my flat.

Have a lovely week, everyone!

Belated post: Kennedy beach + Sandwich boardwalk

Hi, all!

I've been having a wonderful time exploring London this week, and had my first class today. I'll post more on that and some of my recent adventures tomorrow, but for now, here is a belated post on my trip to two beautiful places on Cape Cod with my dad the week before last: the Kennedy Compound beach and the Sandwich Boardwalk.
More on my adventures exploring London tomorrow!

A particularly lovely building on my street
I arrived in England safe and sound on Wednesday, after a relatively uneventful flight only slightly delayed for plane de-icing. I'm living in a cute little university-run flat in a fantastic area of Central London called Bloomsbury. I'm currently steeped in orientation events, and preparing for the beginning of classes next week; I've been very busy the last few days, but I will certainly update more when I get into a routine!

Have a lovely weekend, everyone, and thanks for all the kind wishes!

Tascha Takes... London?

Hi everyone!

As I write this, I am waiting in Logan airport, listening to music, and generally chillin' with my best bud Spikey (who accompanies me on all international adventures).
I land in Dublin tomorrow at 7am local time, and after a short layover, fly over to London. Despite having the privilege of traveling quite a bit in my lifetime, I have never:
A) flown with this much stuff (two large suitcases, a gym bag, and a backpack, to be exact)
B) flown solo to a destination where I don't know a soul, let alone
C) moved to a random country for half a year.

Nevertheless, I am very excited (duh!). I'm lucky enough to be living in Bloomsbury, which is in the very heart of London. I'll have neither my usual job nor my internship, which will hopefully leave me with lots of time for traveling and time to explore the city!

Luckily this snow storm started just an hour or so ago, so my flight is only a little bit delayed. It's oddly cozy waiting inside the airport and watching this outside:
My flight boards to Dublin boards in a few minutes; it's hard I believe I won't be in the US until June! I'm absolutely psyched for this new adventure, however, and I cannot wait to share it with you all.

Happy Tuesday!

Recent adventures

Hope everyone is staying warm!

I'm leaving for London in 12 days and couldn't be more excited! In the meantime, however, I've been enjoying myself (when I'm not packing up my entire room to prepare for construction, that is). I spent last weekend visiting my dad on Cape Cod, where we went sledding near the Kennedy compound:

Also, I went to the Top of the Hub for tea and cookies with my mom and Andrey this afternoon. It's a nice little place on the top floor of the Prudential in Boston with a lovely view of the city.

Which reminds me that checking out the Met's rooftop cafe is on my (very long) list of things I can't wait to do when I return to New York!

Have a nice weekend!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, everyone! We followed our family tradition and went to the 7pm fireworks show at the Commons, and then headed over to Artu, where we enjoyed a very delicious dinner. At home, we turned on The Princess Bride and watched the ball drop. All in all, a lovely night!

A few photos:

Snowy backyard & snowy deck Christmas tree
Milo cuddling up to his one true love (the radiator) & a snapshot from the lovely John Singer Sargent exhibit at the MFA.
Some delicious profiteroles from post-MFA dinner & boil cookies I made on the stove in lieu of a working oven
Whisper being adorable & Milo and Steve chillin'
I'm now on the Cape visiting my dad, and we are going sledding today! Hope everyone is faring well in the storm. :)
